PROFILE

Established in 1998, Nilcant Awotar & Associates Ltd acts as the financial manager of the building team and provides value added service by managing cost, time and quality of all the contracted projects. The company’s role is to provide effective cost management and cost control in building and engineering projects at every stage of construction from initial feasibility stage through to the settlement of the final account. So far, Nilcant Awotar & Associates provide a large array of services in Quantity Surveying, Project Management.

Nilcant Awotar & Associates Ltd is an up-to-date consultancy practice combining both the requisite local expertise and the necessary back-up support of a major long-established firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors based in South Africa. The company uses latest information technology and dedicated software packages for its activities. The practice employs well-qualified and experienced persons dedicated and interested with their profession.

BIOGRAPHY

Nilcant Awotar is a holder of a Diploma in Building/Civil Engineering (UK), and a Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying (UK). He is also a Professional Associate of the “Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors”, an Associate of the ‘Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ and a member of the PQS. He also holds a Certificate in Facilities Management (UK). Nilcant Awotar has acquired extensive experience in the field of construction both locally and in the UK while working in the private as well as in the public sectors.

EXPERIENCE

The practice has a qualified and well trained staff, having acquired experience in a variety of projects such as: IRS, RES, PDS, Hotels, Schools, Commercial, Residential, Industrial and other projects.

Schedule of Quantity Surveying Services

The main duty of the Quantity Surveyor is to look after the financial and contractual aspects of a construction project.

Cost Checks

  • Cost implications during detailed design stage and advise the Client and the Architect on corrective measures to be taken.
  • Prepare and submit cost estimates for the project before tenders are invited.
  • Advise the promoter and the Architect on any aspect that can influence the project’s cost and measures that can be taken in order to ensure that the budget for the project is not exceeded.
  • Confirm with the Architect and the civil / structural engineer allowance to be made in the Bills of Quantities with regard to sub-structural works.
Bills of Quantities

Measurement, preparation and presentation of detailed Bills of Quantities based on detailed drawings, data processing, and preparation and editing of preambles and preliminaries.

Tender and Contract Documentation

  • In conjunction with other members of design team prepare tender and contract documentation.
  • Advise on suitable tendering and contractual arrangements, insurance responsibilities, indemnities and bonds.
  • Advise on amendments to standard Form of Contract.
  • Assist the Architect in finalising appointment of nominated subcontractors in compliance with normal tender procedures.
Tender Report

Check tenders to determine correctness of arithmetic, levels of pricing policy, errors and qualifications, conformity and compliance with instructions. Preparation and presentation of Tender Report to client and drawing up Contract Documents.

Interim Valuations

Measurement and valuation of work executed, variations, materials on site or off site including site measurements and records.

Cost Control

Measurement and assessment of variations, extra works including preparation of new rates, negotiation in accordance with the rules of valuation of the Conditions of Contract.

Meetings and site visits

Attendance and contribution to client’s meetings / coordination meetings and post contract site meeting, regular site visits as required in the fulfillment of any of the above duties.

Final Account

Re-measurement of all sections of the works. Preparation of final account in accordance with the terms of the Contract to take into account any variations, adjustments of P.C. and Provisional Sums, subcontractors and supplier Final Accounts. Agreement and settlement of final cost in accordance with Contract conditions.
